NEW TINNITUS TREATMENTS

Treatment of tinnitus is multi-faceted and comprises a wide range of strategies depending on the underlying etiology of the tinnitus.  It may include medical or surgical interventions.  Mostly new tinnitis treatment are surgical interventions. 

Melatonin intake is a medical intervention.  Melatonin has been said to improve tinnitus and sleep.  Its impact on sleep is enormous on persons with disturbed sleep patterns, but its impact on those has not been associated on the severity of the tinnitus itself.  It may be considered safe to use for those who have idiopathic tinnitus particularly those who have disturbed sleeping patterns.

Beta carotene is often used in different type of supplements since it is a safe method of providing Vitamin A.  The body has the ability to either store or excrete excess beta-carotene.  A large dose of beta-carotene is therefore wasteful.  Commercial tinnitus drugs claim that their active ingredient is Vitamin A.  Beta-carotene is converted by the body into Vitamin A but only the needed amount.

New cure for tinnitus

Masker therapy makes use of either a device that is inserted in the ear or a device that can be placed under the pillow.  These devices create a white noise to mask the tinnitus at night because that's when the tinnitus noise is worse when the surroundings are extremely quiet.

Stapedectomy is one form of new tinnitus treatments using surgical intervention that removes the fixed shapes of the ear and replacing it with prosthesis.  This will allow sound vibrations to be transmitted properly to the inner ear fluids for hearing.

Low level Transmeatal laser irradiation used in treating chronic tinnitus showed 13 of 35 patients reported reductions on tinnitus noise while 2 patients reported absence of the ringing.  Further studies will still have to be conducted for this type of treatment.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation makes use of electricity by having an electric current pass through the scalp and skull and into the brain.  The process is repeated several times a second. It will cause seizures to some patients.   But the relief from the noise lasts only a couple of weeks after treatment.

Vibration therapy uses mechanical vibrations which are applied to repair the damaged nerve endings of the inner ear.  It is done thru a probe place in the mastoid bone behind the ears.  A broadband sound is produced to increase energy in the harmed area.  It is acknowledged as an effective new tinnitus treatment.
